CAS Blog 6-24-20 (Service)

 This week I've done a lot of different stuff for service! I went to the Houston Food Bank to continue my CAS service project, and I also went to my friend Elliots Eagle Scout project.  The Food Bank was a little bit different from the last few times I've been there. Instead of the usual stuff packing meal packages on an assembly line, I was putting together meal packages in one of the back rooms. These packages were going specifically to children in low-income families, so it was really important that I didn't mess them up. Aside from a little slip-up at the start where I was given the wrong list of items to pack, it all went really well. Our supervisor told us that we packed up enough meals to feed over 900 kids, which made me feel awesome! Along with that, I helped Elliot with his Eagle Scout project, which was a really good project. For the project, we helped plant a garden for a local elementary school and cleared some weeds too. Cas Blog 6-3-20 (Service)

 Today was my first day doing my CAS project of volunteering at the Houston Food Bank. This is a long-term thing that I plan to do every week over the course of the summer. I am doing this because I want to do my service hours while also helping people who are in need.  The operation was socially distanced, and also very efficient. I worked in a group in an assembly line type fashion to help put together meal packages for lower-income families. My job was to put boxes of cereal into the packages, which sounds simple but surprisingly was not. The line was going very quickly, so I had to put the cereal in very quickly so as to not slow down the line. Along with that, I had to position them in just the right spot so that there would still be room for everything else in the box. I had to communicate with everyone else on the line to make sure it would all work out as well.
