Today was my last day volunteering at the Houston Food Bank before the school year begins. It was honestly a little sad knowing that I might not go back there for a while, but I'm glad that I did so much good work. I ended up going into one of the backrooms with one of the people I've seen a lot there, and we packed up a lot of excess things that didn't fit into any other category. It was really strange seeing some of the things that people donated to them despite being a food bank. There was an absurd amount of soap and laundry products and also a lot of plastic toys and other stuff like that. After that was all said and done, I thanked some of the people I've been working with for the last few months and went home.
In total, I've done 36 service hours over the summer, and I'm very proud of myself. Although it may not have been much, it really made me feel like I was working for a good cause, and that I'm doing the right thing. It's been a good summer, but I'm also very excited for the school year to start.
This project has been learning outcome 4. I've been volunteering at the food bank every week for most of the summer, and have stuck with it the entire time. I've persevered through it and shown commitment to it and reached my end goal for service hours at the end of it all.
